Hee Seop Choi: Baseball Facts
Joining the Major League Baseball is probably the dream of every baseball athlete. It is a dream more elusive for Asians because it has long been dominated by Americans but dedication, commitment and skills helped Hee Seop Choi achieve this dream. He is considered as the first born Korean position player in the MLB and his statistics reveals the reason why this is so.
The Best Dodgers Home Run Derby Participant
News of Hee Seop Choi’s amazing baseball skills was highlighted during his stay with the Dogdgers. In as much as he was only given few hours to participate in their games, he was still able to showcase his unbelievable talent. The record he did in the All Star weekend in the year 2005 remains unforgettable in the eyes of many baseball enthusiasts because he hit an all time record of .236/.318 and .458 in the All-Star Break coupled with 13 home runs. This left him on the same plane with other Dodger All-Stars like Cesar Izturis and Kent.
The Cubs Ultimate Member
He debuted on the Major League in the year 2003 under the management of the Cubs. He managed to perform eight home runs and 28 runs batted in the 80 games he played with them. These could have done him wonders if not for the unfortunate concussion he had on the same year. If not for this, he would have been a baseball legend during this early stage of his career.
Six home runs within a three game series
Only a few can perform six home runs within a three game series and this includes the name of Hee Seop Choi. The crowd chanted his name in unison for a long period of time during the game of the Dogdgers against the Minnesota Twins on June 10-12, 2005.
The MLB Statistics
All throughout Hee Seop Choi’s stay in the Major League Baseball he had an average batting of .240, 40 home runs and 120 RBI’s. This is only in a span of two years with very less exposure during his stay with the Dodgers. Many are disappointed that he is not performing in the MLB today but the cause of this matter remains to be disputed. However, Korean baseaball enthusiasts are happier now that he is playing in his own country.
Korea’s Pride
The end of his MLB career is the beginning of his Korea Baseball Organization Career where he debut a 0 to 5 game against the Doosan Bears in the year 2007. He landed .337 batting average, 45 RBI and 7 home runs for his 52 games in the first season of KBO alone during the year 2007.
Nevertheless, his accidents still remain to be a problem. He again experienced another injury in the year 2008 which demoted him to the Korean Minor league but he returned with all the strength and prowess in the year 2009 resulting to 69 home runs side by side with Korean Baseball star Kim Sang-Hyun.
